The Strike of “07
September 24
– 26, 2007

In a matter of minutes, Local 909 members
along with UAW-GM workers across the country, shut down General Motors
nationwide in the fight for jobs. The 40-hour strike resulted in a contract
that was ratified by a majority of the membership.
From the first moments every gate was
covered. Although there was some initial confusion, our volunteers from several
committees straightened out the problems and got everyone signed up. Thanks to
the Community Services Committee, the Election Committee, the Veterans
Committee, our plant nurses and others who helped sign up the membership for
strike duty.
We would also like to thank all of our
sisters and brothers from other Unions, Local Unions, the community, local
businesses and former striking newspaper workers, who walked the line with us,
sent refreshments or just honked as they drove by. Our Region 1 Director, Joe
Peters, Asst. Director, Mike Letkowski and International Rep, Brian Johnson,
also came by the lines to show their support.
Special thanks to UAW Locals 140, 228 and
869 for their support on the lines. Local 140 & 869 represent the Dodge Truck
plant and the Chrysler Stamping Plant across the street. They had leafleted
their plants and were going to have a mass rally with us on Friday, September 28th
if the strike was still going. We’ll be there for you!
Also a big thanks to the Millwrights Local
1102, which generously allowed us to use their hall for free for our
informational meetings – they’ve always been there for us.
Finally, congratulations to the membership,
especially our newest members, for standing strong and for the solidarity they
showed. The enthusiasm and spirit of our former temps (now seniority workers)
made for some lively picket lines.
